Traits of a Successful Entrepreneur

What are the requirements for entrepreneurship success? What characteristics do successful and influential entrepreneurs share? Here is what I have discovered holds true for all of the incredible entrepreneurs I have met over the years and learned from as well as spent time with.

  • Passion. If you were paid a billion dollars tomorrow, what would you wake up and do anyway?  Entrepreneurs that both know this and build a business around this are the ones that win.
  • People. You can not do it alone.  Entrepreneurs that understand people, lead people and ultimately inspire the people that serve them are the ones that win.  How well do you understand people and what makes them tick at the core?
  • Persistence. Most “overnight sensation and success” entrepreneurs worked hard for years or even decades to get there. They fell and got back up after failing, reinvented themselves, and had faith when no one else did. No matter what, they continued to put one foot in front of the other until they succeeded. Do you also do this?
  • Process. A system and procedure for business is a must.  Large and impactful companies are only grown and scaled when there is a detailed process, system and protocol that can be replicated and followed.  Many entrepreneurs are not wired to follow process, yet they have people in place to make this happen.  What process do you have in your business?
  • Practice. You don’t become a black belt overnight. An entrepreneur who exudes such grace, confidence, poise, and excellence in their field has likely put in thousands to tens of thousands of hours honing it. What do you spend tens of thousands of hours on?
  • Profit. Profit and cash are the lifeblood of any organization.  Without it, that organization will not continue.  One way profit is measured is in dollars, which is the measurement of how well you served.  There are also immeasurable components of profit, like culture.  How profitable are you?  How do you measure the immeasurable things like culture?
  • Purpose. I have known and experienced the entrepreneur who achieved the aforementioned six Ps but still felt hollow inside. What good is winning if there is no goal? I knew I had succeeded when I had completed the first six Ps. I only started making an impact once I discovered my purpose. What do you want? One sentence stating why you are here.

I exist to inspire and ignite others to own and live their real story with excellence.
